Message from HoD

In the field of Earth Science, Geography is one of the oldest and advanced branches to cultivate the relationship between nature and human society. As connected with almost each field of science through various aspects, ‘Geography’ or Geographical Science is termed as ‘mother of all science’. In this branch of Earth Science, we learn from origin of the universe to the latest scientific development for the wellbeing of mankind through the lens of geographer. In Geography, we believe in blending of knowledge gathering from class teaching and verification of the knowledge from real world field study and fulfilment of learning from laboratory experiment and its application for the physio-cultural well-being.

Since the first day of our journey in 2011, Geography Department of Shyampur Siddheswari Mahavidyalaya aims to promote the study of this branch of Earth Science and has been working its best to establish it as a field based scientific study to explore the relationship between nature and human environment and to stimulate the student community of rural West Bengal to accept this subject as a part of the enrichment their knowledge though the study of Geography. The Geography Department has presently three experienced faculty members who are continuously doing their best for the overall academic development of the departmental students. The faculty members are also connected with research activities in different field of geography and publish numbers of papers, book chapter in national and international level journals. Two books were also published for the direct beneficial of the students of different courses of UG studies.

The main aim of the Geography Department is to teach this subject not only for scoring, but also for absorption and sharing of knowledge for the beneficial of both physical and human environment. For the benefit of student beyond their formal syllabus-based learning, the Department has organized national and state level seminar and webinar, quiz competition, certificate course in RS-GIS in the last five years. I wish of behalf of each faculty member the more academic advancement and excellence of our Geography Department in the coming days.
